18A Customer Avatar

My prototypical customer is one that wants a homeopathic lifestyle change. When something such as this comes out to the market, women and families tend to turn to these products which would be my ideal candidates at first and then would become more broad as they become more popular.
My prototypical customer is one that enjoys living a healthy lifestyle. She is a young woman, 24 years old. She keeps house clean and use candles and air freshners to keep her house nice. Recently, her friend was allergic to one of the candles, so she wants to transition into something more natural. She has been reading a lot of research over the internet as well for common house deodorizers and natural remedies for some knee pain she has because of her long distance running. She doesn't want to use over-the-counter medications because they don't seem to work for her and if she uses prescription medication for her knee pain, she has symptoms that don't make her feel like herself. She finds a line of natural essential oils that have zero chemicals in them that she could diffuse around her house like a blend called Purification, which has Citronella, Lavandin, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Myrtle, and Tea Tree. This will keep her house smelling clean while also purifying the air because Tea Tree oil has antimicrobial properties. For her knee pain, she finds a blend called PanAway that has Wintergreen, Helichrysum, Clove, and Peppermint. These blends of oil sooth the pain that she has after her runs.
  • The character is very much like myself. We are extremely similar which I think why it was so easy to come up with a character that would benefit from my product. I don't think it was a coincidence at all because many people will come up with products that could benefit themselves and this is one of them.

  1. Hello Jenna,

I like how detailed and descriptive you were in your post. I agree women and families would be interested in your product. Like your prototypical customer I also enjoy living a healthy lifestyle. I like working out and try to eat healthy. My prototypical customer was also similar to me. I think this is because we solved problems with our products we personally experienced.

  2. Hi Jessica,

I liked the details you gave for your customer avatar. The details you gave relate back to the product and idea you have which is good. Bringing in how she views her friends and behavior shows how she makes purchasing choices. The customer being similar to you shows that both of you are interested and have a passion for the product.

  3. You did a great job with the details! I liked how you included the product details into your avatar. I agree with your statement on the coincidence of it. It would almost be weird to develop a product or service that you wouldn't benefit from in some way. Your avatar gives me a good picture in my head of your stereotypical customer.

  4. HI Jenna,
You went into great details describing your avatar and I think that it was super effective. I like how you didn't stop at a women who enjoys a healthy lifestyle but went into the age, lifestyle, and even candles that she might like. I also really like how you described how she doesn't like to take medication. I was able to picture the customer perfectly. Great Post!

  5. Hey Jenna,
I think that a lot of faced a similar conclusion: Our target customers are pretty similar to ourselves. This is because a lot of us sought out products that we felt satisfied an unmet need that we currently have. Subconsciously though, I feel that our avatars are an accumulation of our friend groups, which is why they seem so much like us, I know I definitely did that. This is not a negative thing though because it is easy to target a segment we are a part of because we can directly relate to our customers.

  6. Hey Jenna,
You did a very good job of identifying your target customer. People are becoming more and more fed up with over the counter drugs. Many negative news has come out about pharmaceutical companies in the past few years, and I think that this market has the potential to become huge in the near future.
