25A What's Next

Existing Market
Step 1: What is next for my venture is the introduction of these homeopathic products into therapeutic and chiropractic offices. This will be hard because medical communities may not support the use of these products in the office. The oils are known to have relaxation benefits that can relieve stress and tension in the body. Some applicable oils can help reduce pain in the body after a few uses. This could significantly impact a person when they are at either of these locations.

Step 2:

  • Lori: I would suggest a presentation of the benefits that homeopathic medication can have throughout a therapy session or a chiropractic session. This could probably enable people to understand your product and your intentions more and could have a positive effect on patients within each practice.
  • Sara: If there are individuals that already support the use of homeopathic treatments, you should have them talk to others about how it has helped them in their everyday life. Especially those that are supportive but don't what direction to turn to for their needs.
  • Riley: You can advertise to individuals about your products that could really help them. For example, if there is an oil or a blend of oils that can help relieve pain, you could talk to people at a pain clinic and see if it could help them. Give them samples free of charge, your contact info, and see how it works out for them after a few weeks.
Step 3:
What would make sense for my venture is terms of production and growing would be to target the locations or individuals that are seeking homeopathic remedies but aren't sure on where to start. I know that there are oils that are sold in stores like Whole Foods but those oils are actually diluted with carrier oils like grape seed or olive oil so it isn't a 100% pure product. This could help get the word out about it. I could also hold seminars and classes on products people could make with the oils, like bath bombs or face washes, and show them the benefits to using the products on a daily basis.
New Market.
Step 1:
A radically different market would be those that are against the use of essential oils because they may not believe in the effectiveness. This would be challenging but scientific lab studies and personal commentary on the situation could change opinions. Because these oils can be on the expensive side, we could also look at reduced prices for those in need that can't afford regular pharmaceutical treatments but still need help with a problem they may have.
Step 2:
Having people that have changed their minds about homeopathic medications would be able to create value for the product I produce. When hearing testimonies about these products, it could show how they really do work and how much safer and easier they are to use in the long run compared to pharmaceutical treatments. For those that can't afford these products and have used them, they could those around them about these treatments and we would even be able to help them. It could be an initiative within my business to help those in need.
Step 3:

  • Dana: I think that if you segment your market and really know who you want to appeal to it could help expand the knowledge about certain products. Don't take over-the-counter medications completely off the table when discussing this, as in don't tell them to never take an Advil again, and they may listen to you.
  • Hannah: I think if you incorporate an initiative to help those who may not be able to afford your products, it opens you to a bigger market. It can also show them that your quality of product won't degrade just because they may not be able to afford all the products.
Step 4:
I learned that I may not be able to change a person's opinion because they may be too set in their way. My demographic should target those who truly need or want to explore homeopathic treatments because I just don't think some people will change their mind about what they believe in. I have to make it known as well that essential oils won't cure everything. It is simply just a treatment that could help with a short-term problem, like a headache or stomachache. I am in no way stating that essential oils will cure pneumonia or cancer. I still believe in the power of medication used in hospitals and treatment centers but these could also help to alleviate any problems going forward.
The new market would be hard for me to obtain but I think I will have to target each individual in a different way to make them understand the varying uses of each of the products I am offering. This could maybe help change the opinions about some things that are homeopathic.

  1. Hi,
I do agree that your demographic should be one that targets those who need and want to explore these treatments. I do think that educating the people might be one way to improve your market size because not many people understand essential oils and how they work. It definitely would be worth it to try to change some peoples' minds.

  2. Hi Jenna,

I like how your interviews from your current market gave ideas on how to promote your product. The first one mentioned presenting the benefits of homeopathic medication. The second interviewee had a great idea to have those who currently are using the product speak about their experiences. I think this is the best way to promote an item, since many people base their decision of purchase on others.

  3. Your interviews with the existing market were very insightful and suggested great ideas to help your business. I agree that getting the word around about the benefits of your products is crucial. Many people may not no the benefits and what your product is. However, being able to explain directly to potential customers would help a lot.

  4. Hey Jenna,
I really liked the way you reflected on both sets of interviews. In the first one you make it clear that there are a lot of marketing things that you need to do to compete with big brands like Whole Foods. Giving people the information they need is really important and if your product is going to claim something that a competitor does not have than you need to highlight that.

  5. Hi Jenna,
You did a great job conducting the interviews and received some awesome feedback. I especially liked one of people that provided feedback saying that you should get people who has already benefited from the oils speak out more of the benefits they experienced which can help advertise your business idea. Great Post!
